I read in a forum yesterday were someone said that there are much better dogs for water-fowl. This just made me mad as hell someone who obviously knows nothing of the breed giving advice to someone who is interested in the breed & steering that person in the wrong direction. A dog lives an average of 12 years, anyone who goes out & buys a dog without the proper knowledge is crazy! There is not a better breed for any kind of bird hunting than a g.s.p  HANDS DOWN! You cant find a smarter dog than a well breed g.s.p, theres simply no comparison to a lab. A g.s.p is adaptable to any & all weather conditions, don't let the short hair fool you. Their loyal & live to please their owner, & their better swimmers. Now I know theres good labs out there but anybody who's hunted over a well breed g.s.p knows what I'm talking about. It's not even close! Get a good g.s.p & you'll know what I'm talking about. Don't waste 12 years of your life with a crap-shoot of a dog, do it right the first time.

Capitan you nailed it, great post. I've had a great lab before, but as good as he was he was not the machine my gsp is these dogs (from the right lines of course) are non stop bird tracking machines! He's got no fears & he'd try anything to please me..

Ignorance is bliss I guess..
People should not give advice about something they know nothing about.
If they truly saw an inferior g.s.p that didn't perform like it should have I'm sure you could blame the linage or lack of training. But don't blame the breed itself.
