Male - 55 to 70 pounds & 23 to 25 inches at the withers.
Female - 45 to 60 pounds & 21 to 23 inches at the withers.
Disqualifications
Flesh colored nose. China or wall eyes. Extreme shyness. Extreme overshot or undershot bite. A dog with any area of black, red, orange, lemon or tan, or a dog thats solid white.
Selecting Your Dog
Buying a puppy on impulse may only cause heartbreak later on, ditto on buying a puppy because it's "cheap", it makes better sense to put some real thought into your canine investment, read all that you can about your breed of choice, go to a dog show, visit more than one kennel, reputable breeders will be willing to answer any questions you might have.
Research the pedigree of the puppy your interested in, this is the best way to determine how the pup in question will turn out, google or any other search engine can assist you in this, don't just take the seller's word for it, check it out for yourself!
All this may seem excessive but spending money only to spend more money on a better dog is worse, this dog will live about 12 years take your time and get the right one.
Make sure the pedigree is full of proven hunters & titled dogs?
Field dogs are not always as willing to retrieve from water, however there's been many a great field dog.
